"Swaddling Theo made a huge
difference. He is now sleeping 5-6 hours straight at
night. (His record in an unswaddled state was 3 hours).
He also falls asleep much more easily. It used to take
me over an hour to get him to sleep because he was so
fussy and uncomfortable. Now he seems relieved to be
swaddled and five times out of six will fall asleep
on his own. It even cut down on his spitting up at night.
We owe you." |

"My husband refers to it as
the "Harvey Shuffle", like a dance. The first
time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes. It was the
day after my son Ben was born and Dr. Karp came into
my hospital room to examine him. He took Ben off of
my breast, interrupting his breakfast and causing him
to complain loudly. He wrapped Ben up in a blanket so
tightly I imagined it might stop his blood from flowing.
Then, he placed him belly down on his knees and began
to jiggle him while making this shushing sound.
I thought to myself, "This man is definitely crazy!"
I felt like I should do something to stop this, but
then to my amazement, Ben stopped his crying and a heavenly
expression came across his face. In less than 30 seconds,
Ben was asleep and my jaw was on the floor.
Since then, we have often used the swaddling, shushing
and jiggling. It has saved many tears and ensured our
neighbor's peace." |

"In the short time my seven-week-old
daughter Madison and I spent with you yesterday, I learned
a small wealth of techniques to make her early weeks
more comfortable. My wife and I bought no less than
ten baby care books, including one from the Mayo Clinic.
However, the techniques you demonstrated to calm Madison
were not in the books (especially the "Shhhhh"
sound that simulates the sound of the womb).
From the first week onward, we received a number of
instructions on swaddling Madison. It never seemed to
work, and Madison fussed. She seemed to not like being
restrained. Yet, for the past few weeks, she awakened
three to four times per night. That evening, when we
swaddled her tightly according to your instructions,
she slept for six hours straight, and generally seemed
calmer throughout the day." |
